Furniture Repainting Tips

When we talk about home decor, painted furniture always comes to mind. It is among the many things that contribute to the style and beauty of our homes.

However, furniture made from wood do not stay as new as it used to. Although there are types of wood that can withstand chipping off and fading longer than others, they all still end up the same after some time.

When your furniture starts to look old and worn, you may want to start repainting it. By doing this, you can enhance the look of your home interior, and at the same time providing a protective shield around this special luxury item.

The following are some tips that I hope will be useful when you repaint your furniture:

1. Choose a type of paint and color. You can go for the enamel spray paint, acrylic paint or some other type. They are available in a wide range of colors, so will really need to have to think some time before coming up with a final decision.

Put into consideration the theme of your home and where the furniture will be placed once it has been repainted. It is advisable to use a non-water soluble paint on outdoor furniture because it might rain anytime and the color will just wash off. If it is going to be displayed inside the house, make sure that it matches the rest of the furniture in your living room, bedroom or kitchen.

2. You might also want to rethink everything if the furniture involved has some sentimental value. Was it originally owned by your grandparents? Your aunt? Would it be all right for them if you repaint the furniture? If you feel that these important people in your life would not mind, then go ahead with the project. Otherwise, you can just keep the furniture clean and put it in a safe place as a display.

3. Next thing to decide is the work area. If you have a wide outdoor space, then you can do it there. Some types of paint give off strong fumes that may cause nausea, irritation and dizziness so be careful about this. Make sure that there is proper ventilation to avoid any accidents.

4. Prepare the furniture by cleaning it up and scraping off the original paint by using sandpaper or soapy water. When you are finished with that, pick up your paint brush or enamel spray paint can and start applying the coating.

5. Leave the furniture to dry overnight. Once it is completely dried, you can now start using it again!
