You have heard it said time and time again. How you decorate your home is a direct reflection of your personal sense of style. While most of us do set out to make a style statement when we furnish our homes and apartments, we do not usually see them as personal expression of ourselves. The combination of colors, lines and decorative items, however, can be quite revealing as to the persona of the homeowner. This can be a good thing, especially if you like who you are. In fact, it is probably a good idea to discover how to use furniture to play up your personality.
How do you see yourself? Are you extravagant, outgoing and a bit on the gregarious side? Or, perhaps, are you more introverted, controlled and prudent? Perhaps you fall somewhere in between the extremes. Decorating your home, your most personal space, with items that are a direct reflection of your personality and character traits can, ultimately, result in an environment where you feel more "at home".
Take for example the extravagant, outgoing, gregarious individual. Their home might reflect those traits using vibrant colors, exotic fabrics and strong, individualized pieces of furniture blended with an arrogant defiance of tradition. The opposing personality, the controlled, introverted and prudent one, would stick to traditional design schemes and have matching furniture and soft, diffident colors.
Learning how to use furniture to play up your personality, of course, is a great way to allow guests in your home to get a peek at the real you. Yet, it can do much more. The use of items that fit you on that personal level can also ensure that you live in an environment that is comfortable for you emotionally. It will create a space suited to your tastes and, yes, your sense of style.
